X. Design Week 2026.
Brought destination teams together in Brussels to unite three days of collaboration into one continuous conversation across four key themes. We first explored how teams are actively restructuring their operations to prepare for artificial intelligence. The discussion then moved to the urgent need to build public trust through clear ethical guidelines. Our third theme addressed the challenge of maintaining digital visibility when new external platforms control search results. We finally examined how advanced digital systems now serve as the modern entry point for the entire visitor experience.
Every single theme places unique demands on DMOs. The current pace of technological change greatly exceeds traditional planning cycles. This report captures the essential insights that emerged directly from our collaborative time in the room, highlighting all of the arguments alongside effective case studies.
We'll share selected findings publicly to encourage wider industry progress, however the complete collection of candid conversations alongside detailed strategic frameworks will remain accessible exclusively to our members and event participants.
Where the conversation went.
AI readiness, workflow and knowledge systems
Teams are rebuilding their working method around AI. The question is how fast and where to start.
Read the threadarrow_forwardAI governance and strategy
Governance is the strategic anchor, not the compliance burden. The destinations getting this right are building trust as infrastructure.
Read the threadarrow_forwardAI discoverability and presence
The visitor used to find the destination through search. Now the destination has to be found through AI. Authority shifts to the content layer.
Read the threadarrow_forwardAI interfaces and user experience
AI is moving into the visitor-facing surface. The destination's job changes from publisher to designer to gatekeeper of trust.
