Advancing Our Strategic Operations

Dedicated initiatives will carry the core conversations from XDW 2026 forward throughout the remainder of the year.

Outlining the practical implementation steps that follow this collaborative event.

Foreword

The strategic conversation actively continues well beyond our three days together.

This comprehensive report captures the essential insights surfaced during XDW 2026 in Brussels. The vital work identified here progresses continuously across our partner destinations and through the dedicated programmes DTTT actively develops alongside them. Several distinct initiatives will carry this momentum forward throughout the remainder of the year.

The AI Transparency Framework is actively advancing, welcoming new destinations to participate in its upcoming phase. We are currently developing two essential programmes alongside this framework: Digital Literacy for Effective AI and a comprehensive quarterly knowledge programme. DTTT will also actively explore dedicated workstreams to address specific emerging topics like vibe coding. Finally, our broader community will reconvene for CAMPUS in the Turku Archipelago this September and FDB in Ireland this December.

Continued work

The AI Transparency Framework continues

The AI Transparency Framework is the working instrument behind the governance question that ran through Day 1 afternoon. The framework is open at ai.thinkdigital.travel, with the model documentation, the assessment structure and the underlying methodology available to any destination using or adapting it.

The next phase of work is development through application. Across XDW 2026 and the conversations alongside it, the framework moved through different organisational contexts. In some it acted as the structural spine for an organisation-wide governance build. In others it provided the shared language for vendor disclosure embedded in tendering and partnership agreements. Each context surfaces questions for the conversations shaping the framework's development.

The work stream on Day 3 took the framework through a structured conversation with the destinations engaged in its development. The framework has four disclosure models that attach to a piece of work as a record of AI involvement. Each model captures a different dimension of how AI contributed to the work.

Alongside the disclosure models, the framework holds organisational instruments that sit inside the organisation and capture maturity, capability and wellbeing dimensions. The full set is open at ai.thinkdigital.travel, with the documentation, the assessment structure and the methodology available to any destination using or adapting it.

The directions discussed at Day 3 covered broad themes for where the framework could go next. Disclosure could travel in two directions between DMOs and their agencies, with the framework giving both sides a shared language for the AI involvement on either side of the contract. The models could capture more of the value AI brings into a piece of work, with the dimensions beyond time saved getting the same weight as the headline figure. The supporting structure around the models could align more closely with how destinations operate, from output formats to benchmarking and the tooling that connects assessment with destinations' working systems.

The framework continues to develop through the conversations with the destinations engaged in that work. The regular meetings of the framework's panel give destinations a structured way to take part in the conversations shaping the next iteration.

Digital Literacy for Effective AI

Addressing the critical digital literacy gap remains a primary challenge for destinations seeking to successfully integrate new technologies. Digital Literacy for Effective AI represents the dedicated programme DTTT is currently developing as a structured response to this exact challenge. The initiative provides a practical, working framework that destinations can confidently deploy directly within their own organisations and across their wider industry stakeholders. This programme remains in active development, drawing its foundational structure from proven industry patterns to successfully elevate digital capabilities across the entire sector.

Workstreams under consideration

Focused workstreams

DTTT is considering introducing focused workstreams as a way for destinations to engage with specific topics in depth. The idea is to give the membership a structured channel for the topics that surface repeatedly, with each workstream running over a defined period and producing shared outputs that the broader membership benefits from.

Vibe coding is one example of where a focused workstream could sit. The topic featured as a recurring thread across the XDW conversations, with destinations at different levels picking it up. Some are exploring the practice for the first time. Others are already shipping internal tools and asking the harder questions about when to vibe code and when to bring in a development partner.

The Day 2 afternoon conversation surfaced the operating distinction. At the internal team level, vibe coding is a powerful way to ship the tools that match the specific shape of the work. At the consumer interface level, where a product reaches hundreds of thousands of visitors, the questions of security, scale, performance and brand stay open and need answers before a vibe coded product goes live.

A focused workstream on vibe coding would run across these levels, with the structure built to support destinations at the beginning of the practice and the destinations further into it. The output sits with the membership, with the contributing destinations shaping the structure and the broader community benefiting from what comes out.

The quarterly knowledge programme

The new quarterly knowledge programme provides DTTT members with a consistent schedule of updates aligned directly with their existing planning cycles. This continuous flow of information effectively bridges the gap between major events by ensuring the community stays completely up to date.

Each release actively delivers:

  • Actionable Sector Intelligence: Up-to-date insights on governance and broader industry shifts.
  • Working Strategies: Real-world approaches currently successfully used by partner destinations.
  • Practical Updates: Essential briefings on new industry tools and operational developments.

Contributing destinations directly shape these core content streams to ensure the wider membership receives highly relevant, continuous value throughout the entire year.

Advisory Engagements

Our advisory services provide destinations with dedicated, highly tailored support to successfully implement their ongoing digital initiatives. Rather than defining top-level strategy, these flexible engagements focus entirely on practical execution, such as establishing robust governance models, driving literacy rollouts or developing specific internal tools.

Operating directly alongside our core member programme advisory, this service provides a dedicated 90 hours of specialist support. Every partnership adapts entirely to the specific operational needs of the destination, drawing directly upon DTTT's expertise across governance, content and system integration to provide teams with the structured, hands-on commitment necessary to confidently accelerate their digital transformation.

The next events

CAMPUS 2026: The Turku Archipelago

Taking place from 30 September to 1 October 2026, CAMPUS asks something bigger of every participant by focusing entirely on finding bold and radical solutions to current sustainability challenges. The Turku Archipelago in Finland provides the ideal setting to test strategic ideas against real conditions, away from the noise of everyday work. An optional, limited-capacity retreat follows directly on 2 and 3 October.

The programme actively explores sustainable innovation and destination management through seven strategic themes:

  • Circular Economy
  • Collaborative Progress
  • Value and Impact
  • Regenerative Action
  • Climate Change Mitigation
  • Futures Thinking
  • Visitor Flows

Mornings feature focused keynotes, fireside chats and panel discussions. Afternoons take delegates directly into the archipelago, where specialist guides lead practical workshops that actively bring the morning sessions to life.

Future. Destination. Brand. 2026

FDB returns from 2 to 4 December in Dublin, convened during Ireland's EU Council Presidency. This vital gathering dedicates three days to one essential conversation exploring the future of destination brand and leadership in the age of artificial intelligence.

The event progresses through three distinct operational days:

  • Day One: A private, invite-only leadership meeting for NTO and DMO chief executives, followed directly by the X. Awards, which celebrate the first AI-positive recognition across eight distinct categories.
  • Day Two: A comprehensive keynote day open to all members and delegates, featuring highly actionable insights from global destination leaders.
  • Day Three: An exclusive, members-only working session where the community will collaboratively shape the Future. Destination. Trends. 2027 report.
